Association Member Professor Wu Sharing on Academia Career Development

On May 25th, the Association of Overseas Chinese Food Professionals successfully hosted a vibrant academic sharing and talent development exchange event. Professor Wu Haizhou, a member of the association, was invited as the keynote speaker. Professor Wu previously served as a joint doctoral candidate, postdoctoral researcher, and researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. He joined Huazhong Agricultural University in March 2023, and within just one year became a professor at the College of Food Science and Technology, a professor at the College of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, and a doctoral supervisor. He also serves as the director and chief expert of the Hubei Provincial Meat Processing Technology Innovation Center, a remarkable achievement in his career.

The event was divided into two parts, lasting a total of 60 minutes. In the first part, Professor Wu spent 40 minutes sharing in detail the challenges and gains he encountered during his studies and research abroad. Professor Wu mentioned that studying abroad not only broadened his academic horizons but also honed his research abilities. During his research, Professor Wu faced many challenges, but through unremitting efforts and teamwork, he ultimately achieved fruitful results.

Professor Wu then delved into the reasons and considerations behind his decision to return to China. He mentioned that the rapidly developing research environment and enormous development potential in China were key factors that attracted him back. Furthermore, he explained in detail how to find and choose a suitable platform for development upon returning to China, and shared his valuable experience in this regard.

The second part of the event was a 20-minute Q&A session. Association members actively asked questions, and Professor Wu provided detailed and insightful answers to their questions regarding their future development in academia. He particularly emphasized the important role of overseas experience in domestic development, encouraging everyone to fully utilize their overseas academic resources and experience to actively participate in domestic scientific research and contribute to the country's development.

This event not only enhanced association members' understanding of studying abroad and returning to China for development, but also provided valuable guidance for their future development. The event concluded successfully amidst enthusiastic applause.
